This ongoing project started with an artistic research residency at Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona [Barcelona Photo Archive], during the Barcelona Crea Grant 2025 and with the mentorship of Centre d’Art La Capella. It is based on 17 photographs by Josep Domínguez showing sand mounds in the streets of Barcelona, taken during the construction of air-raid shelters. I interpret these mounds as speaking of violence and catastrophe through what is unseen, often hidden beneath the surface. After months of research, I have returned to the original glass plates to generate new images, looking at them through the mounds of earth. A gesture that proposes shifting our gaze to the invisible processes that structure our society.
